Alesse precautions

Alesse is not for every woman. Individuals, who are overweight, diabetic, currently have cancer or a history of heart attacks or stroke should not take Alesse due to the increase in risk of these conditions that comes with this form of contraceptive. For that same reason any individual with poor circulation, severe blood pressure or bleeding irregularities should not take Alesse. Women who have had breast, uterine or liver cancer or related diseases are advised not to use Alesse because these types of diseases can be hormone related. The addition of the hormones in Alesse to their systems may trigger a reoccurrence. There are other contraceptive methods more suitable for women with these conditions.

In the event you suspect you are pregnant stop taking Alesse immediately and have a pregnancy test done. Birth defects are a known side-effect of Alesse. After delivery women should plan to use other birth control methods for the first month and then start taking Alesse again if not breast feeding. Nursing mothers should not take Alesse. The hormones do crossover into breast milk and are not healthy for an infant to ingest.

Those who are prone to migraines, any pulmonary valve conditions and previous episodes of jaundice while taking contraceptives are also not good candidates for Alesse.

It is important to inform the prescribing doctor about any conditions listed above. In addition, high cholesterol, depression, epilepsy, angina or any heart condition needs to be brought up. Tuberculosis, gallbladder disease and varicose veins are medical conditions the physician should be made aware of. Finally, the doctor needs to be made aware of any history of breast lumps, nodules, abnormal mammograms or fibrocystic disease or fibroid tumors in the uterus before he can make an informed decision on the suitability of Alesse as your contraceptive.

Birth control pills, including Alesse, cannot provide protection against diseases spread through sexual activity. Pelvic inflammatory disease, chlamydia, bacterial vaginosis, gonorrhea, viral and genital herpes and AIDS/HIV are just some of the sexually transmitted diseases that only the use of a condom can prevent.
